Healing through art
Expression is an important part of communication…especially when you are traumatised and are afraid to speak, play or be yourself.
Art, drama, speech and dance are some of the ways the children in our care express themselves – this forms part of their therapy and it helps them on their journey of healing.
The Langlaagte Campus girls recently took part in the Vision of Joy (VOJ) competition and they came up tops! The girls came first in the drama and speech categories – a really proud moment for Abraham Kriel Bambanani, especially Langlaagte Campus Assistant Manager- Darlene Cigarmony. “Platforms like these are needed for children, who find themselves in organisations such as ours. They need creative spaces where they can meet up and have fun with their peers, who are seemingly going through the same challenges they go through. And, it’s moments like these (winning competitions) that build their confidence and show them that they are capable of achieving whatever they set their minds to. We’re very proud of them”, adds Darlene.
*The Vision of Joy (VOJ) NGO, hosts an arts festival for orphaned and vulnerable children annually. This event showcases the creativity of young talents from children’s homes across Johannesburg South.
